Robin Gavin Memorial
In memory of...
Robin Gavin
October 18, 1951 - August 29, 2000
"...To know even one life has breathed
easier because you have lived —
This is to have succeeded."
—Emerson
Dedicated, Kind, Caring,
Committed, Devoted, Giving...
These are just a few of the words used to describe Robin Gavin by the families she served and by all who knew her. On a wall in her office was a cross-stitched sampler that so perfectly captured her heart:
"My day is complete.
I heard a child laugh."
- source unknown
Robin truly loved all the children and families, and providing the best possible opportunities, education and care for the special needs population was her mission. Everything she did was done with warmth and a generous spirit.
Robin joined Arlington Pediatric Therapy Management Services in 1994 as the director of developmental education. In less than six years, she grew the program from one person serving five families to five people serving over 100 families. Today, hundreds of families have been served and the number and programs continue to grow.
Robin's Legacy
So many lives have been - and will be - touched directly or indirectly. Today the number of families served by the education department continues to grow. Some of the programs designed or developed by Robin and conducted at Arlington Pediatric Therapy are:
- Baby Boosters
- Early Childhood STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting)
- Infant Massage
- Tootsie Rollers
- Numerous support programs covering a multitude of topics
Robin was an advocate of support groups for families and providing education opportunities for them as well as for healthcare professionals. To that end, she helped organize workshops, and in recognition of this significant contribution, Friends of Children in Therapy established the "Robin Gavin Symposium for Parents and Professionals" and other "Robin Gavin Workshops." Contact the education department at 847-255-8690 for a current schedule of offerings.
Robin's History
Children had always been a focus of Robin's life. Prior to joining Arlington Pediatric Therapy, Robin co-founded Children's Heart Services and volunteered for the Chicago Heart Association, often speaking at the annual symposium. She had also been a 3rd grade teacher in Palatine and received her master's degree in early childhood intervention. In every aspect, Robin participated in our community and with our children.
Robin's Tree

Robin Gavin Memorial Giving Tree
Friends of Children in Therapy (FOCIT) has established The Robin Gavin Memorial Giving Tree and The Robin Gavin Memorial Fund as a tribute to Robin and her work.
You are invited to participate in continuing
Robin's mission through a contribution to
FOCIT for this fund. In recognition of your
partnership and generosity at the $50 and
above level, a 1"x3" plate will be engraved
with your message. This could be to honor
someone, to celebrate a special occasion, as
a memorial, or whatever you designate. The
plate will then be affixed to an oval-shaped
wood "leaf" and added to the beautifully
handcrafted wood Giving Tree mounted on a
wall in Arlington Pediatric Therapy's education
wing. Our goal is to have hundreds of
leaves...every life that Robin touched can help
to touch another.
Friends of Children in Therapy
FOCIT is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) not-for-profit
organization dedicated to providing support for
therapeutic services and educational programs
for children with special needs and their families.
